Michael Wawrzoniak is a Ph.D. candidate in the Systems Group of ETH Zurich Computer Science Department.

His most recent research has been focused on serverless platforms. He has developed Boxer, an experimental cloud overlay system. The system can be used to extend the programming model of real-world function-as-a-service platforms. The utility of an early version of this system in the context of serverless data analytics was described in [CIDR21call_made]. Later, an evolution of the Boxer platform was used to demonstrate the serverless paradigm for unmodified off-the-shelf distributed query engines such as Apache Spark using existing FaaS systems such as AWS Lambda [VLDB-SDA23call_made,CIDR24call_made]. Against the wishes of many conference reviewers, he continues to pursue this line of work further. For some reason, he writes about himself in the third person.
