Ghislain Fourny will give an invited talk at Data Amplified 2023

Ghislain Fourny will give an invited talk on "Scaling up the storage and management of XBRL data" on 16 October at external pageData Amplified 2023 in Zurich.

Abstract:

In this talk, I will give a high-level introduction to database technologies, old and new, and share my perspective on current and possible future developments of XBRL from the perspective of a database researcher.

In particular, I will explain how database systems have an architecture organized in physical and logical layers, and how this is paramount for productivity, performance, and in order to take data to the Petabyte scale. We will also see that data comes in a limited number of shapes on which data models are based, that the XBRL data model (OIM) follows a well-established data cube model, and we will differentiate it from the various ways XBRL can be physically stored (XML, JSON, relational databases, etc).

Finally, we will insist on the importance for XBRL processors to present XBRL to end users with a high-level of abstraction in the spirit of the Open Information Model, and that it is crucial to advocate for the use of XBRL processors to the public who consumes XBRL data.
